We might think we’re the new breed of strong, independent women, but it seems our ancestors were pretty self-sufficient.
Archaeologists have uncovered a 250-year old dildo in an ancient toilet in Gdansk, Poland.
According to Yahoo!, a team excavating an ancient toilet dug up an eight inch sex toy found amongst pottery and jewellery on site.
The sex toy wasn’t quite as sophisticated as the modern day Rabbit – being made of leather, filled with bristles and a wooden tip…
According to Yahoo!, the rough and ready toy might not be the only sword in town, with the team believing that a number of swords found in the vicinity points to a fencing school on the grounds.
It’s believed that the school was running in the mid- 1700s, and that a pupil took the toy with them before dropping it into a toilet.
In a statement from Poland’s Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments, the department said:
“It is quite thick and rather large, made of leather and filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip that has preserved in excellent condition. It was probably dropped by someone in the toilet.
“Whether that was by accident or on purpose is anyone’s guess though.”
At least they didn’t have to worry about the batteries running out…
