Anyone who has ever spent a lazy day watching Murder She Wrote has a soft spot for Jessica Fletcher and it appears that the British Monarchy is no exception.

Actress Angela Lansbury, who played the iconic character in the long-running mystery drama, was today officially made a Dame at Windsor Castle by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of  “services to drama and to charitable work and philanthropy”, joining Judi Dench and Maggie Smith on the prestigious honour roll.

Speaking about the achievement, the 88-year-old said that it was a “proud day”.

“It is a very proud day for me to be recognised by the country of my birth, and to meet the Queen under these circumstances is a rare and lovely occasion.”
