An Ode To Beethoven: Music Fans Will Love Today’s Google Doodle

This is definitely worth five minutes of your day.

To celebrate the great life and works of Ludwig van Beethoven, today’s Google homepage is a brilliant tribute to our main musical man.

If you head on over to Google.ie, you’ll find poor ould Beethoven in a spot of bother.

He’s on his way to conduct a performance of ‘Ode To Joy,’ but he’s running into all sorts of trouble with his horse. The only way he’s going to get there is with our help.

Basically, it’s like Grand Theft Auto for classical music fans.

The challenge is to correctly arrange several bars of music from four of Beethoven’s best-loved works (his Fifth Symphony, Für Elise, Moonlight Sonata and Ode to Joy) to help him get to the concert on time.

There’s no public record of Beethoven’s birthday (for shame), so you’ll be forgiven for not having made a note of it in your diary.

Today’s game was designed to honour the 245th anniversary of his baptism in a small parish in Bonn, Germany in 1770.

The talented people at Google Doodle who created the game described it as ‘rollickingly fun’ to make, and we’re here to tell you that it’s also rollickingly fun to play. (Rollickingly.)

Here’s the link to the game – good luck!
