Falling in love is a tricky game at the best of times, never mind when you’re separated by the Atlantic.
One amorous 17-year-old from Kerry has found himself in just that predicament.
Shane Leahy from Dingle met and quickly fell in love with Maddie Walsh last summer. Maddie was in Kerry with her family for a mere four days on a holiday. But, as she described to Radio Kerry, once the pair met they quickly fell in love.
“Me and Shane happened to meet in one of those Supervalu stores. I was looking for ice-cream” she said.
“For the next four nights in a row, we walked his dog around Dingle”.
Despite their short affair, the pair kept in touch, texting and talking every day.
When they discovered their February midterms coincided, Shane flew to Boston to visit.
“It made me fall more in love with him,” Maddie said.
Now, in a desperate attempt to be reunited for the summer, the duo have set up a GoFundMe page to raise cash to get Shane on a plane.
Maddie writes:
“We have been trying to make plans to see each other this summer but between airfare and other expenses, it does not seem likely that Shane will be able to make it back to America.
“Shane and I both work a lot during the school year and the summer, so we understand the value of hard work and earning money, but between this and saving before we leave for college, it seems near impossible that we can make this summer work.”
Luckily the pair has almost reached their target. You can support them HERE.
