Making a ton of money and sitting next to J.Lo seems reason enough for a man to enjoy his job, and that’s exactly what Steve Tyler thinks.
The American Aerosmith rocker said he “loved and hated” his two-year stint as a judge on ‘American Idol’ but confessed to Rolling Stone magazine that the contest wasn’t his cup of tea. You and many others Tyler, love.
The singer, who announced last month that he was quitting the show after two years judging the “talent”, said he took the job partly to wait out an internal feud in his band, Aerosmith.
“It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest,” he admitted.
“I loved it and I hated it. It was a great job. I sat next to J.Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life, and it became larger than life.”
Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were brought onto the show at the same time two years ago as British judge Simon Cowell left the panel. Lopez is also leaving the show.
Tyler said he felt a lot of pressure from the show’s producers to fill in Simon’s ‘bad guy’ position.
“They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids, and I don’t have that in me,” he said.
“That’s not what I’m about. That’s more about that other guy. Not me.”
Tyler’s band have since patched up their differences and have continued to work on a new album. It will be their first album of new material since 2001.
Fox TV announced last week that Mariah Carey will take one of the vacant seats on the show’s juding panel next season.
