All of your bad habits could actually be signs of intelligence

So take that, mam!

We knew it!

From nail-biting, to running late, to being messy – everyone has some bad habits.

While we try to stop ourselves from doing them, bad habits can be very hard to shake.

Well, we don’t need to feel too bad about all of these ‘failings’ anymore as several studies have revealed that all of your habits are actually signs that you’re really smart.

Messiness

A study first spotted by ‘Business Insider’ shows that being messy is a sign of creativity and brighter ideas.

As part of the study by the University of Minnesota participants were asked to come up with new uses for ping-pong balls.

The study found that, overall, participants in the messy room generated the same number of ideas for new uses as their clean-room counterparts.

However, the messy people’s ideas were rated as more interesting and creative when evaluated by impartial judges.

Staying up late

There’s a study that suggests that people who stay up late are smarter than their counterparts. It found that night owls had significantly higher IQs.

So next time you’re up till 3am on a Netflix binge, remember it’s because you’re smart.

Cursing

If your mother looks at you in disgust every time you let a curse word slip, make sure to tell her you’re only doing it because you’re really clever.

survey monitoring this found that, contrary to popular belief, people who swear more have a richer vocabulary. But that’s not all. Those who could name the most swear words in under a minute also tended to have higher IQs.

Being late

In an earlier story by Business Insider, they found that being late all the time can mean several good things (though your boss might not agree).

Those who are always late are more positive and more likely to be able to multitask, which means that even if you are five minutes late, you’ll probably get more done than those who show up early, so it all evens out in the end.

So next time someone gives you grief for your bad habits, just tell them not to be jealous of your vast intelligence.
