Airport Teddy Bear Finally Makes It Back To His Owner After Nearly Two Years

He finally made it home...

Sue Murphy

Quite a few months ago, we ran a story about a teddy bear that was found in Bristol Airport. The vintage bear was discovered by airport staff who, at the time, were trying to return him back to his owner.

A photo was discovered with the bear with a note on the back that read: ”With dearest love and kisses to our darling Daddie from your loving little daughters Dora and Glyn.” The photo was dated March 1918.

The airport staff were having little or no luck finding the owner of the bear but carried on with their mission.

However, the Telegraph is reporting today that the mystery of the teddy bear has finally been solved.

The story of the bear was run in The Mature Times, a paper for over 50’s, a copy of which was sent to one Mr. Robert Glyn Baker.

He said: “I was stunned when I got a cutting of the Mature Times in the post and saw my bear on the front page.

“I thought it was lost forever, I was convinced it had been destroyed.”

Baker immediately called the paper to try and get the bear back. The teddy was a family heirloom which holds a lot of sentimental value for Baker.

He said: “I’m an only child and my auntie Dora didn’t have any children either so I am the only person that could have got the bear.

“My mum gave him a different nose, he has pads on his arms too. I think I gave him a rough time when I was a kid.

“It’s the sentimental value really, my hands were so full with what I was carrying I thought I had left it in the toilet. I had so much with me, but like a fool I left it in the airport.”

A great end to the story.
