From its peeling 70s wallpaper to its patterned carpets to the damp wall patch behind Fr. Jack’s chair, the building that housed the Fr. Ted priests was as integral to the show as Dougal’s off-the-wall logic.
So, it comes as no surprise that the owner of the actual house located near the Burren in Co. Clare is doing his best to prevent it from being taken over by a car park.
Farmer Patrick McCormack who lives in the parochial house with his wife Cheryl and their children has hit out at fresh plans to construct visitor facilities in the Burren, specifically a 27-space carpark close to the house.
The house overlooks the Burren National Park and the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) want to construct the proposed carpark just a few hundred metres from the McCormack’s home.

Ah go on… the actual Father Ted house in Co. Clare
And this isn’t the first time Ted’s house has come under threat. Concerned local residents formed the Burren Action Group (BAG) back in the 90s and successfully overturned government plans to build visitor facilities in 2000.
Speaking to The Independent Patrick said: “Do they not realise what we went through opposing the visitor centre at Mullaghmore?”
The plan is now on hold but the house is still under threat. We just hope the local council listen to the residents. Ah go on…
