A group of UCD students are doing something fantastic For Suicide Prevention Ireland

This is great.

Cathy Donohue

Clíona McDonald got in touch with us this morning to explain a fantastic initiative undertaken by the UCD students union.

581 students have pledged to raise €100,000 for Suicide Prevention Ireland to help the organisation fund fund a preventative education programme for secondary schools and a national crisis counselling programme for secondary school students.

To date, the students in question have organised over 30 events and the latest charity drive includes organised skydives.

Speaking to us, Clíona said: “The first jumps were last week and there are more jumps organised for some weekends over the summer months! After this weekend, the next jumps are the last two weekends in May.

“We are trying to keep raising as much money as possible and in doing so, trying to organise more and more jump dates”.

If you want to get involved, Clíona tells us people can “text YSPI UCD to 50300, to donate €4 and help roll out the Free2Talk, a crisis counselling service for young people having suicidal thoughts”.
