New relationships are fun and all but nothing beats the comfortable familiarity of a long-term relationship.

When the butterflies and nerves subside and you’ve been together for a long time certain things in your relationship with undoubtedly change.

Welcome to the world of arguments over the remote, lax hygiene and total acceptance of each other’s weird habits.

Here are the things you will know if you are in a long-term relationship.

Netflix and chill…

Is actually Netflix and chill. There is no time for euphemisms here, we’ve got too many Game of Thrones episodes to watch. You take your boxsets very seriously.

You gave up the sexy lingerie a long time ago

Sure you will whip it out on occasion but most nights you will go to bed in a free t-shirt you got back in 2013, with a face full of sudocrem and your retainer in. You’re comfortable enough to know your other half really doesn’t mind.

You ditch extravagant gifts

And instead put the money towards planning trips together and having nice meals out every once in a while.

You become a sexpert

You pretty much know how things are going to go down in the boudoir. You both know what the other likes which makes things a hell of a lot easier.

The PDAs come to a halt

Once you’re settled into a long-term relationship you no longer feel the need to shift the face of each other at the cinema or hold hands when walking around the shops. You might not overtly show your love but you know you both feel it.

When you have time apart you revert to your single self

If your fella goes on a weekend away you suddenly find yourself wide awake at 3am eating cereal from the box while watching re-runs of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. You truly appreciate some alone time every now and then.

Date nights become a massive deal

And usually, something you look forward to all week. It’s the one time you make a solid effort to get dressed up and actually get your asses off the sofa.

You start to really think about the future

You start to talk about where you would like to live, if you would like to have kids, and would you like to get married. The weird thing is it doesn’t even scare you. Well…maybe just a tiny bit.
