This coming Monday is not just an important day in the life for Irish soccer star, Stephanie Roche, but indeed is a hugely important day for Irish sport in general.

With the 25-year-old Dubliner the only Irish person, and indeed, the only woman to have ever been chosen as a finalist for a FIFA Goal of The Year Award, there are so many reasons to make sure you get on and vote this weekend so that it is Stephanie who stands on that stage in Zurich on Monday night holding the winner’s trophy.

Here’s why…

What a cracker!

First and foremost, the reason she is there at all is thanks to this cracking goal she scored for Peamount United against Wexford Youths.

It speaks for itself.

Stephanie is not only representing herself, her clubmates and her friends and family in Zurich on Monday night, she is also representing Ireland.

And speaking of which…

It’s Ireland versus Colombia. As Stephanie told Her.ie just last week, she is anxious to beat off the Colombian vote – a country with a population of 48.3 million people.

Let’s see if our five million votes can help her snatch the award from Rodriguez’s grasp.
