Whether you’re heading to your local beach or have a sun holiday booked, there are common phrases which you always turn to when surrounded by the sand and sea. Here are 10 things you (almost) always say or hear on the beach…

1. Will we sit here?

The decision of which sun lounger/ piece of sand to sit on could make or break your day. Chances are you will end up doubting your choice before deciding you’re too lazy to move all your stuff.

2. That heat/ It’s too warm/ This is the warmest it’s ever been.

This IS the reason you went to the beach in the first place.

3. That wee breeze is nice, isn’t it?

‘Tis. ‘Tis indeed.

4. I’m off for a dip to cool down.

There’s nothing quite like the sea to soothe you after half an hour in the sun although, depending on where you are, it’s usually followed by “It’s too cold. I’m getting out”.

5. Quick, grab the wind shield/ my hat/ the towels!

That stupid breeze!

6. I’ve got sand everywhere.

EVERYWHERE.

7. Fancy a swim?

Hmm…

8. Do you have sun cream on?

The age-old question that can also lead to “Do I look red?” or “What did I tell you?”

9. I’m listening to my iPod so I won’t be able to hear you.

Firstly, that’s being antisocial. Secondly, it’s stupid because you might miss the sound of the ice cream van. Thirdly, we might have something REALLY important to tell you.

10. I’d love a cup of tea.

Proving it’s never too warm for a cuppa.
