10 Shortlisted For the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award

Ten authors have been shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, it has been announced.

Including works by Donal Ryan (The Spinning Heart) and David Park (The Light of Amsterdam), other authors on the shortlist include:

  • The Detour by Gerbrand Bakker, translated by David Colmer
  • Questions of Travel by Michelle De Kretser
  • Absolution by Patrick Flanery
  • A Death in the Family by Karl Ove Knausgaard, translated by Don Bartlett
  • Three Strong Woman by Marie NDiaye, translated by John Fletcher
  • Traveller of the Century by Andrés Neuman, translated by Nick Caistor and Lorenza Garcia
  • The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng
  • The Sound of Things Falling by Juan Gabriel Vásquez, translated from the original Spanish by Anne McLean

The winner of the IMPAC Award is to receive €100,000 and will be announced on June 12th of this year.

“This is a list of high quality literature that includes five novels in translation which readers might not otherwise get the opportunity to read, and I am delighted to see Donal Ryan and David Park on the list” said Dublin’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Henry Upton.

“This is a real tribute from the judges to the quality of contemporary Irish writing.”

The titles on this year’s shortlist were nominated by public libraries in Australia, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Norway, South Africa and The Netherlands.

The five member international judging panel will select one winner, who will be announced by the Lord Mayor of Dublin and Patron of the Award, Oisín Quinn.
