Be it going for a run around the block, hitting the gym, heading to bootcamp or training for a marathon, ‘Girls Run the World’ wants to get girls best fitness foot forward this New Year. We’ve already paired up with Life Style Sports for our very own Girls Run The World challenge, and we asked to hear about the women that rock your world too. We called on our readers to outline why their mother/sister/boss/bestie deserved a prize, and you responded in your droves.

This month’s winner is Joan Hallinan. She writes:

The Girl in my life that I wish to nominate is a girl that certainly runs the world. That is my thirty three year old sister Paula Browne, who in the space of a year has transformed her life.

Where do I begin? Well, I am the youngest of six children and my sister Paula is seen as the middle child in our large family. Paula is married to Stephen Browne for the past ten years and they have two beautiful kids, Amy, 6 and Luke, 8. Paula was always too busy to dedicate time to herself and never would have experienced true satisfaction about her body weight. However this was all about to change. As you can well imagine, it’s not an easy task for any mother to find the time to exercise but Paula plucked up the courage and decided to change her lifestyle, not only for herself but for her two young kids.

I really hope that she does not mind me writing into you guys but if she receives free gym runners of her choice, well then won’t I just be the best little sister in the world. Her journey began over a year ago; she woke up one morning and decided enough was enough, time to lose weight, give up the cigarettes and start a new healthier life.

Paula has not looked back since. She began her voyage by introducing herself to the gym. She started doing spinning classes in the morning before her day’s work had begun, when most of us would still be asleep (i.e. Me). From there, she decided to start walking in the evenings, this slowly turned into a jog and now she is now doing 8km as if she had been doing it all her life! In October, Paula entered a White Collar Charity event and excelled on the night, to the point I had to look away as I was beginning to feel sorry for her opponent. After this experience there was no stopping her, Paula signed up for Hell and Back. Even those words “Hell and Back” would make me want to run as far away from it as possible. She completed the course within two hours and was the first woman back from her group.

A year ago Paula weighed just over 13.5 stone. She knew in her heart that she wanted to lose this weight. Tonight, as I am sitting in bed typing up this email Paula is a healthy, happy, courageous 10.5 stone. I am very proud of her and would only love to surprise her with this lovely gift from Life Style Sports. Like most people, Paula has faced obstacles in her life but as I and the rest of her family can see this was one of her toughest challenges. The day I received this text message from her saying “Just bought my first pair of size 10 skinny jeans I am so proud” she was not the only one to feel a sense of pride. For the first time in her life, she is content in her own skin a feeling that every woman should experience. I am very honoured to nominate Paula as I hope that this email can reach out to other woman that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, just like my sister Paula. Thanks girls for taking the time out to read this email as I know that you must receive hundreds.

Baby sister feeling very proud,

Many thanks,

Joan Hallinan.

How could we say no?  This month’s star prize is on the way to Paula and Joan, congrats guys!
