Sean Buckley and James Colbert have experienced the effects of cancer on their families and now the friends are about to take part in the largest endurance triathlon challenge ever to be attempted in Ireland.
The mission? To raise €500,000 for Breakthrough Cancer Research.
Sean and James will have 22 days to test their limits by swimming 120km of the River Shannon, cycling through every county in Ireland and running 4 consecutive marathons all to raise funds. They are being trained by sports coaches of the highest standard in Ireland, all giving up their free time to help them achieve their mission.
“I know there’s a year and a half of training, we can walk away from it,” James said, “But these people go through months upon months of chemotherapy and families go through months and months of pain… we’re only cycling, running and swimming for three weeks.”
Public participation and support is welcome. Check out www.endurancechallenge.ie for more information.
