Eating well is always important, but even more so when there’s a baby on the way! It is easy to have a full, tasty and balanced diet while pregnant, but there are some foods that mums-to-be should steer clear of…
Soft cheese – Mould ripened cheese can expose you to listeria, which can be harmful to baby. Check packaging to make sure any cheese you eat has been made with pasteurised milk – the likes of cheddar and feta are usually fine.

Unpasteurised milk – Again listeria is the potential problem here, make sure all dairy products are pasteurised to avoid any risks.

Raw eggs – Anything made with raw or partially cooked eggs should be steered clear of due to the risk of salmonella, this includes homemade mayonnaise and ice-cream.

Peanuts – Avoid peanuts if there is a history in the family of allergic conditions, as baby may be at a higher risk of developing a nut allergy.

Undercooked meats – If you prefer your steak rare, you might have to develop a taste for browner beef! Any meat that is still pink should be avoided, make sure all meat is cooked thoroughly.

Liver – Liver contains high amounts of Vitamin A, which can build up in the body and affect baby’s wellbeing.
