What thoughts spring into your mind when we mention the word ‘cabbage’? If you’re anything like us, chances are that singular word will conjure up images of colcannon and having the green stuff shovelled onto your plate as a kid.

If you’ve gone off cabbage as you’ve gotten older, it might be a good idea to start reintroducing it back into your diet, along with more milk. Why? Well according to some new research, drinking milk and eating cabbage may help reduce your risk of developing breast cancer in later life.

Researchers in Shanghai analysed the diets of 3,443 women with breast cancer and 3,474 women without the disease. The researchers found that the women who regularly drank milk had a 20 per cent lower risk of getting the disease.

Milk and Cabbage could reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.

Another study by the same team discovered that eating cruciferous vegetables, like cabbage, resulted in a 62 per cent reduced risk of dying from the illness and a 35 per cent lower risk of redeveloping the disease after being given the all-clear.

According to the researchers, the antioxidants in milk and cabbage may help to reduce the risk of cells turning cancerous.

We should also mention that cabbage is full of vitamin A, which is great for your eyes and can improve the tone and smoothness of your skin, so maybe rustle some up the next time you have your dinner. You never know, you might like it!
