Choose the low-calorie option... Yum.

Her

It’s summer-time which (in a perfect world) means plenty of holidaying, socialising, tanning, travelling, cocktail-drinking, trend-setting and summer snacking.

The barbeques and sunny afternoons can have us reaching for our favourite summer snacks on a regular basis, which is all well and good until we begin to over-indulge.

That’s why we’ve come up with some summer snack swaps for you…

Find your favourite snack and discover what its swap is. You’ll still get to satisfy your craving, but you’ll be able to enjoy it the healthy way.

Summer Snack: Ice-cream

Summer Swap: Frozen Yoghurt

There’s nothing like opening a luxurious carton of ice-cream or taking the first lick of a delicious cone on a summer’s day. You could shave off a few calories and opt for frozen yoghurt… or you could take it a step further and freeze your own homemade smoothie for a major health kick.

Summer Snack: Sushi

Summer Swap: Fish

The good weather has us choosing what we believe to be lighter options on the food menu. But sushi isn’t always the healthiest option. In fact the white rice is boiled in water and sugar so it sticks together. Ditch the sushi and opt for a grilled fish dish instead.

Summer Snack: Lemonade

Summer Swap: Water, Ice and Lemon

We might think that a tall, cool glass of lemonade is the best option on a sunny afternoon but it’s loaded with a lot more sugar than you think. Opt for a glass of water with ice and lemon for a super low-calorie option.

Summer Snack: Pina Colada

Summer Swap: Low-Calorie Cocktail

If you like pina coladas… the tune alone can get us all excited for that super summer cocktail but there is a lower calorie option. Mix one shot of rum with 4 ounces of pineapple juice, a quarter cup of frozen banana slices, a quarter cup of unsweetened coconut milk, and a handful of ice. It’s just 175 calories, we’re not joking…

Summer Snack: Popcorn

Summer Swap: Smaller Portion, Sans Butter

This is more of a strategy than a swap. Keep your portions small and say no to the butter.

Summer Snack: Taco chips and dip

Summer Swap: Veg Sticks And Hummus

Dipping your taco chips into a dip can add up to 375 calories after just a handful of the snack. Swap your snack and keep the crunch factor with celery sticks and hummus.
