Your bed is your kingdom. From sleep-ins to late-nights, fumbles and fun to cosy DVD nights, your bed is often the key to comfort, happiness and an excuse to shut out the world for a couple of hours.
So what we’re about to reveal might upset you. Just a little. (We’re sorry.)
Despite recent surveys showing that most people upgrade their pillows every five years, experts are now recommending you toss your old pillow every six months.
Why?
Experts warn that changing the pillow every six months will help improve neck posture during sleep, reduce acne (from a build-up of oil and sweat) and can decrease the risk of allergies from dust.
What is even more disturbing is the news that there’s a host of dead skin, oil, dirt, oh and spiders trapped in the fibres.
According to specialists, dust mites (of the spider family) are invisible to the eye, but live regularly in the crevices of pillows. This can lead to nasal and skin irritation and can cause increase allergic reactions to asthma sufferers.
So, although you may have your eyes on new shoes. We’re suggesting a trip to the bedroom department.
No-one needs to sleep in a bed of critters. *shudder*
