Almost half of Irish women believe that if men suffered from PMS that it would equate to man flu once a month.
That’s just one of a number of findings coming from a recent survey on premenstrual syndrome.
Studies found that over half of women’s daily lives are affected due to suffering with PMS. The study of over 500 women from throughout the island of Ireland revealed some shocking statistics, including the fact that over two thirds (68%) say their personality changes for the worse while more than one in ten (16%) say they don’t recognise themselves sometimes when suffering from PMS symptoms.
The study was undertaken to gain a better understanding of the emotional and physical affect that PMS symptoms have on women’s daily lives and relationships. The age-group who said they suffer the most from PMS symptoms are females between 25 and 34. Staggeringly almost 90% of women believe that PMS is a normal part of a woman’s monthly cycle.
And when it comes to the men in their lives and whether they understand their wife or girlfriend’s symptoms and show compassion, almost half (46%) of respondents feel their boyfriend or husband doesn’t understand. When asked how they thought men would cope, 77% of women said they felt their man would treat it similarly to getting “Man Flu” once a month and that they would look for constant sympathy.
Just under half (49%) of women describe the impact of PMS on their emotional and physical well being as strong. Almost a quarter (23%) of females suffer from cramps. Other PMS symptoms include mood swings (17%), feeling sensitive/down (16%) and tender breasts (8%). 25% of women opted to exercise more to help battle their PMS symptoms, while 26% of females said they are constantly on the lookout for new remedies to treat their PMS.
Despite the large percentage of women that say their lives are affected by PMS 43% of women don’t do anything to manage their symptoms.
This survey was carried out on behalf of Cleanmarine® Krill Oil for Women is a new Irish brand of Omega 3 supplement, specially developed to help women manage their monthly PMS symptoms.
