A woman has shared a snap of what she thought was a fungal nail infection… revealing to Facebook friends and followers she was actually battling skin cancer.
When Melanie Williams saw a mysterious black mark under her thumbnail, she assumed it was a nail infection. It was only after she went to her doctor that she was diagnosed with a malignant tumour.
The 36-year old from Leeds posted a snap of her finger with a message to her Facebook page, which has since gone viral.
Telling followers “I don’t want your sympathy, I want more awareness,” the mum of three wrote:

Melanie has since revealed that although she was lucky enough to remove the cancer before it spread, she has since lost part of her thumb.
Melanie hopes that by posting her image and story, she can help create awareness and have people vigilantly check for changes in their skin.
