Our New Year mission is all about eating healthy.
The first step to that is eating fresh and homemade food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Here are the nifty, cheap tools that will get (and keep) your mission underway.
Blender
Make smoothies a regular thing for breakfast or a snack with a handheld blender. Alternatively, use asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and squash to create a low-calorie, delicious soup. Yum.
Steamer
It’s a fantastic way to cook vegetables without adding any oil. It also keeps most of the nutrients intact. Get your five-a-day the cheap and easy way.
Apple Divider
This super smart (and very cheap) kitchen tool can make having an apple a day as a snack an easy thing to do. Thirty seconds and you’ve an apple cut and in a bag, ready to munch on when hunger pangs start to set in later.
Herb Mill
Cutting fresh herbs can be messier than measuring out dried. This makes it easier. Why use fresh herbs? They give amazing flavour to food so you can skip the extra salt that bloats you.
Grater
Fact: When you grate cheese, you end up using less. It’s also handy for grating small amounts of chocolate. Why not make a citrus zest? You can use the zest in sauces for fish or burgers. It’s calorie-free and adds a tasty punch to your meal.
Portion Plates
Avoid overdoing it on portion size. Portion size is plate size. Did you know the average plate was once just nine inches? Now they’re everything up to twelve. Keep an eye on the size of your own plates.
Small Cups
Use these little guys to serve puddings or mousse as a dessert. They look pretty, satisfy your sugar craving and are fun to eat. Enjoy…
