A new study conducted by UK government health experts has shown claims about the health benefits of red wine to be largely untrue.

According to The Independent, the report states that even one glass of red wine a day could increase the risk of breast cancer by 13%.

Many previous studies had stated the apparent benefits of drinking the favourite beverage of many including improving heart health and blood pressure. The guidelines are said to also recommend drinking more water and eating while consuming alcohol.

The Telegraph reports: ‘The report will send a clear signal that the dangers of drinking are far more than previously thought.’

Currently, the guidelines for drinking in the UK are set as 3-4 units a day for men and 2-3 for women, but this could change when the report is published this Friday.
