Gym membership was on the top of the majority of New Year’s resolution lists and it is time to put it to good use.

Costas Karageorghis, a leading sports psychologist, has revealed that music is a ‘performance enhancer’.

In an interview with ESPN, Costas explained that a suitable beat and lyrical message can be used to, not only motivate and increase stamina, but also block out the pain of exercising.

“I often refer to music as a legal drug,” Costas said.

Spotify teamed up with Costas to create the perfect playlist for the top fitness trends for the year.

The first playlist is titled ‘Insanity’ for ‘boot camp-type’ workouts.

The perfect tunes for a Cardio work out includes Cheryl, Iggy Azelea and Mark Ronson.

And for all you Crossfit fiends, some Ed Sheeran, Mr. Probz and Clean Bandit will help you through it.

It won’t make the workout any easier but at least it’ll be a little more fun!
