Children’s charity Barretstown is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is calling for support from women who are considering taking part in this year’s Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday, 2nd June 2014.

This year, the dedicated children’s charity is hoping to recruit 180 ladies to join Team Barretstown and collectively raise €25,000!

Last year over 40,000 people took part in the event, managing to raise tens of thousands of euro for charities across Ireland.

Why not challenge yourself to get to 10k by June and help children who are suffering with a serious illness by signing up and asking friends and family to sponsor you.

Every year, Kildare-based Barretstown welcomes 2,500 – 3,000 children who are affected by serious illness (primarily cancers and serious blood diseases) to its magical castle.

The therapeutic recreation provided by Barretstown is seen as a crucial part of the treatment of childhood illnesses, helping to reduce the disruption to the normal child and adolescent development process.

The service is entirely free of charge to the families who attend so donations and fundraising efforts are vital for the charity to continue to help sick children this year.

Open to all abilities, the Women’s Mini Marathon is always a seriously fun event on the June Bank Holiday Monday.

Registration for the event opened on Wednesday, 19th February at www.florawomensminimarathon.ie and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

After registering for the event, please send your phone number and postal address to Cliodhna at fundraising@barretstown.org  and she will send your Team Barretstown event pack!

Find out more about the children’s charity on their website and see inspiring videos on their YouTube channel here. You can also connect with them on Facebook and Twitter too!
