RTÉ Radio presenter John Murray has spoken openly about his depression following his return to the national airwaves this Monday.
The presenter, who was off the air for six months, spoke frankly about his mental health at the beginning of his show.
“One minute I am happily presenting this radio show and enjoying life, the next I am gripped with dread and anxiety with the simplest task proving beyond me,” he told his listeners.
“Depression took a fancy to me and decided to take up residence for a few months, and boy, did it make its presence felt, especially in the mornings when the day ahead became something to endure rather than enjoy,” he said.
“Don’t be too hard on yourself” said Murray speaking to those who may be experiencing depression or anxiety.
“You haven’t failed the life test. Share your thoughts and feeling with others and don’t suffer in silence.”

His wife Miriam Donohue took to Twitter to thank listeners for the support:
