“I Will Be a Human Canvass!” – SPIN 1038 Presenter Tracy Clifford on Taking Part in the Colour Dash Run

It's about to get very messy...

Rebecca McKnight

Let your colours shine!

That’s the message from the Irish Cancer Society, in the lead up to the first Colour Dash run in Europe. Funds raised from the Colour Dash will support the Irish Cancer Society’s work to help people reduce their risk of getting cancer, to provide services to those living with cancer and fund on-going research into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer. Guaranteed the most fun 5k in Ireland, and all in aid of a good cause, these runs are already hugely popular in the US and the first Irish version is set to create an explosion of colour in the Phoenix Park on July 27th.

Tracy Clifford, bubbly breakfast presenter on popular Dublin radio Station SPIN 1038 will be taking on the challenge in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, along with her co-host Ryan Phillips, and we spoke to her about her involvement with the run…

Why did you choose to get involved in the Colour Dash run?

We chose to get involved with the Colour Dash when the Irish Cancer Society got in contact with us and told us all about the idea. It’s a fun twist on the old boring 5k run and of course it’s also a charity close to my heart.

What made the Irish Cancer Society your number one choice of organisation to support?

Unfortunately we all know somebody who has been affected by this disease – the statistics of 1, in 3 are shocking. Everyone knows someone, be it a friend, family member, work colleague, neighbour -so it’s a no brainer to support it when so many people are affected. Personally, cancer has struck my family too many times.

What is your training process, and how is it going for you so far?

Well the training process consists of me out the back garden, throwing paint at myself… Ah no, I’m joking. My training has been light running. Let’s just say I’m saving myself for the big day in the Phoenix Park on July 27th.  😉

How are you feeling about the run now that it’s only a few weeks to go?

We’re really looking forward to a great day of fun, and seeing what state all of us will end up looking like at the finish line.

What is your own favourite colour, and will you be sporting it on the day?

To create maximum messiness I will be sporting all white on the day. I will be a human canvass so whatever colours land on me, they will be the ones I’ll be sporting!

How are you feeling about being covered in paint?

We got covered in paint at the press call so doing it again for real with my friends family and everyone else will be even more craic. Days after the press shoot there was still pink paint in my ears and when my co-host blew his nose, blue paint was on the tissue!

If anyone else is interested in joining you, how can they get involved?

We would love more people to get involved. It’s taking place on July 27th in the Phoenix Park. You can register online at cancer.ie or by calling 1850 60 60 60 to get your Colour Dash Pack. Do it!
