Did you know that having a jaw-dropping moment is actually good for you? Sure, it may feel like your heart is popping out of your chest, but awe-inspiring experiences can make us nicer people, according to some new research.
The Irish Sun reports that researchers believe that having regular “awesome” moments can improve our mental health and encourage us to be kinder to others. All positive things, right?
What is an awesome/jaw-dropping moment, you ask? Well it’s anything that excites you or takes your breath away. For example: a stunning view, seeing your favourite band performing live, having a sneaky shift with your sweetheart – the list is absolutely endless.

Have you had your dose of awesome today?
“Feeling awe can lead to a stronger desire to spend time helping others and partake in experiential goods over material ones,” said Melanie Rudd, a researcher from Stanford University in California.
“The results have implications for how people spend their time, underscoring the importance and promise of cultivating awe in everyday life,” she added.
So when was the last time you had an “awesome” experience? It might be worth seeking out these breath-taking moments – not only are they amazing fun and something that you’ll remember for the rest of your life, they’ll also improve your health and your relationships.
