A new study has shown that half of young women who were asked to locate a vagina on a medical drawing of the reproductive system, couldn’t mark out the area on the drawing.
A new study by British women’s cancer charity Eve Appeal found that half women, aged 26 to 35, couldn’t point out the vagina on a medical drawing of the reproductive system.
The study was conducted with a group of 1,000 women, who were left puzzled by the reproductive diagram.
Of this group, less than a quarter of women felt ‘well informed’ about gynaecological health issues, which could lead to later problems. A third also admitted to avoiding doctor’s appointments out of embarrassment, even when concerned about their vaginal health.
Meanwhile, the majority of women aged 66 to 75 taking part in the study had no problems picking out the vagina, and were able to point out all the body parts on the diagram.
The charity carried out the survey to mark the beginning of Gynaecological Cancer Awareness month.
