Give It A Try: Take Up A New Exercise Class

It may not be easy but it will be worth it

Cathy Donohue

Winter can be a difficult time to keep to a healthy routine. The dark evenings make exercising difficult considering the weather is bitter cold and rain is never too far away.

Although it can be a struggle (we are the first to admit this) the results are worth the effort.

Taking up a new hobby has many benefits; meeting new people, learning a new skill and putting the dark winter months to good use.

There are so many options when deciding on a new pastime that it can be difficult to narrow it down to just one.

Think about what you enjoy, if you like to keep fit then a new exercise class might be a good idea.

Yoga is ideal for reducing stress

From spinning to kickboxing to bootcamp there are numerous choices for those interested in keeping fit. Although you might have a class that you regularly attend, changing it up allows you to experiment and see what works for you and what doesn’t.

Getting fit has many benefits including increased energy levels, reduced stress levels, heart health and an improved sense of wellbeing.

Pilates or yoga might be worth a try in order to de-stress, with stress-relieving effects a class like this is advisable after a hard day at the office when you may need help winding down.

If you feel like company then it can be fun to bring a friend along but everyone at the class is there for the same reason and you’re bound to get chatting to someone.

Team sports are another option if you want to broaden your social circle. Tag rugby, football, tennis and volleyball can prove lots of fun if you have a competitive spirit.

When exercising it’s important to eat foods that have a slow energy release so you stay fuller for longer. Eating breakfast is essential to keep your energy levels up and get all the nutrients you need for an active lifestyle.

Special K Multi-Grain porridge is a healthy option for breakfast and ensures you start the day eating well.
