It might be a scary thing to do, but let’s think about how much time a day we spend sitting.
Clocking up the hours on your fingers? It’s a lot, isn’t it? And especially for those in an office job.
Today, Getting To The Crunch in association with Special K Cracker Crisps on how to get moving!
Experts have become increasingly worried about the amount of time we spend sitting. Kansas State University researchers warned that office workers could be risking their health simply by sitting at their desk.
The research found that people who spend more than four hours a day sitting down are at a greater risk of chronic illness such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
And those sitting for at least six hours were significantly more likely have diabetes.
But there’s no need to panic just yet, there is a solution and it’s to get moving.
Little tips can go a long way in an office environment, here are some to get you started:
1. Leave The Desk
Get moving, make sure you leave your desk for a quick walk every 30 minutes.
2. Mail Walk?
Think about the email you’re about to send, could you walk across the room and speak to the person in person? Most of the time we can…!
3. Nature’s Calling
Don’t put the bathroom off. You might laugh but plenty of office workers prioritise their to-do list over nature’s calling. Putting off a bathroom trip can have some serious health effects.
4. Think Commute
How do you commute? If it’s a bus, why not hop off a stop or two ahead and walk the rest of the way? If you can afford to walk at all, why not try it on a fine day? And if you drive to work, try and out aside an hour in the evening to go for a walk or a jog. It’ll clear your mind and get your exercise plan back on track.
