Ladies, whoever said being curvy was out of fashion will be eating their words today, because psychologists have discovered that to a stressed-out man, there’s nothing more comforting than the embrace of a curvy woman. Hell to the yes.
The Irish Sun reports that men who are under pressure or suffering from stress actually prefer curvy women rather than skinny women. Why? Well those of us who have a fine set of child-bearing hips on us tend to “communicate strength, control and independence” during tough times.
Basically, men feel better about the fact that we’re calm in a crisis and perfectly capable of looking after ourselves. Holla.
In a recent study, 81 men were split into two groups. Technologically savvy researchers decided to stress out one group of men by putting them under pressure and making them speak into a video camera for ten minutes (nerve-wracking, right?). The men were then shown pictures of women who had different body shapes.
The men who were stressed rated the average and curvier women as more attractive, while the calmer men opted for women of a slimmer build.
“Increased stress in men is associated with a preference for heavier women. These physical features may communicate strength and control during times of threat,” said Dr Viren Swami, who carried out the research.
“Stressed men are going for fuller-figured maternal types,” said Professor Cary Cooper of Lancaster University.
Whatever about the research, we’re just going to promote the fact that being curvy shows you’re a strong, controlled and independent woman. Fact.
