And… Relax! Five Ways To Make Sure You Get A Great Night’s Sleep

There's nothing worse than having a bad night's sleep!

Longer evenings and nicer weather (well, a little nicer) with some really bright mornings means that it is going to get difficult over the next few months to get a proper night’s sleep.

A good night’s sleep can set you up for the next few days and make sure your energy levels are at a high for the working week and a busy weekend.

Here are some tips from the top on how to get a good night’s sleep…

1. Eat At Your Usual Time

We might all be exclaiming about the “grand stretch” in the evenings but they shouldn’t interrupt your usual evening routine. Don’t feel like you have to push your meal forward to eight or nine o’clock; eating a heavy meal too close to bedtime can cause digestive upset and heartburn, making you too uncomfortable to fall asleep.

2. Keep It Alcohol-Free

You might crave a glass of wine on a Sunday night, finish the weekend off on a high and all that, but too much alcohol before the week begins can cause fragmented sleep.

Enjoy one alcoholic beverage to satisfy your craving, but if you still need to quench your thirst, go for a water or fruit juice.

“Go on then, sure it all starts again tomorrow…”

3. Drink Water

Dehydration is something a lot more of us suffer from than we think and if you’ve had a “mad one” Saturday night, it’s even more reason to keep yourself topped up. Not getting enough H2O can make you feel tired all day so ensure you’re getting your fill by sipping some before bed. It will also prevent constipation in the morning.

4. Stretch It Out

If you’ve been at the gym during the day, make sure you stretch out before you go to bed. Waking up with a stiff body is never comfortable. Try a few yoga poses before bed and make sure you stretch out areas like your legs, back and arms.

5. Feel Good

If you crave a snack before bedtime, why not try an avocado? Avocados boost your serotonin levels, so eating them is a great way to beat the blues. Try on crackers for the “yum” factor.

Make avocado your “go-to” snack.
