A Very Simple Dietary Change Could Drastically Improve Your Night’s Sleep

Cassie Delaney

Sleep deprivation is the root of all evil.

It leaves us feeling groggy, moody and generally like scum.

Stress, technology and anxiety can all wreak havoc on your sleep and apparently we can add diet to that list now too.

Luckily we can resolve it by simply including more protein in our diets.

According to a recent study from Purdue University in the US, having a high-protein diet can drastically improve snooze time.

The study found that participants who lost weight while consuming a high-protein diet reported improved sleep compared to those who had a ‘normal’ protein intake while losing weight.

In a press release accompanying the study, lead author Wayne Campbell said:

‘Most research looks at the effects of sleep on diet and weight control, and our research flipped that question to ask what are the effects of weight loss and diet—specifically the amount of protein—on sleep.

“We found that while consuming a lower calorie diet with a higher amount of protein, sleep quality improves for middle-age adults. This sleep quality is better compared to those who lost the same amount of weight while consuming a normal amount of protein.’

So if you can’t sleep grab some fish, tofu or a yogurt.

Thank you, science.
