The Irish Heart Foundation is urging people across Ireland to get out and have their blood pressure checked today for World Stroke Day.
Free checks will be held until 6pm today in a number of different areas around the country, with South King St (beside St Stephen’s Green in Dublin) staying open until 7pm.
Having a blood pressure check is vitally important and the Irish Heart Foundation are urging people to avail of the service.
“High blood pressure often has no symptoms so that a person can feel fine and look fine but on the inside silent damage is happening to blood vessels, which can lead to a stroke,” said Dr Angie Brown, Medical Director with the Irish Heart Foundation.
“The good news is that a simple check is all it takes to detect high blood pressure, which can then be effectively managed. In some cases doctors will recommend a combination of lifestyle changes and medication to manage blood pressure and protect against strokes.”
