Do you hate eating veggies? Would you rather chow down on a plate of cardboard than eat some fruit? Do you struggle to get your one-a-day never mind your five?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions then we have some good news for you. Spanish scientists have developed a new way to freeze-dry certain fruits and vegetables which turns them into a powder that retains their original health benefits.

This means that in the future, getting your five-a-day could be as simple as sprinkling some powder on your cereal in the morning. Amazing or what?

Scientists involved with the project believe that this miracle powder will help more people to hit the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables, and it will also be more convenient for people on the go and people who hate the taste of veggies.

The World Health Organization recommends that if we want to stay healthy and ward off any major health-related problems, we should eat a minimum of 400g of fruit of vegetables a day. But, as we all know, it can be hard to get those five portions into us.

This is one of the reasons why researchers from Spain decided to develop the fruit/veggie powder.

Would you use a fruit/vegetable powder to get your five-a-day?

According to reports, grapefruits, kiwis and strawberries are the first fruits that the researchers have successfully managed to turn into a powder.

“Grapefruit is a citrus fruit with great nutritional and functional value but its consumption is very small because, among other reasons, it is very bitter. Meanwhile, strawberries are a seasonal fruit,” said Nuria Martinez Navarrete, the lead researcher.

While the researchers have only dabbled with the above fruits so far, they are confident that they will soon be able to powder vegetables too. Fair play.

What do you think ladies? Powdered fruits and veggies – would you use them to get your five-a-day?
