Two Sixth Class Pupils From Cork Will Travel To Rome To Be Confirmed By Pope Francis

The school trip of a lifetime...

Sue Murphy

Two sixth class pupils were surprised when they found out that instead of being confirmed in Cork, they would be travelling to Rome this weekend to be confirmed by Pope Francis himself.

12-year-old Emily Mulchahy and Edmond Roche found out they were the lucky ones picked for the event following a draw in their diocese. The confirmation will take place this Sunday, the 28th of April in St. Peter’s Square.

Magaret Mulcahy, Emily’s mother, told Today Fm today, that Emily works as an altar server and had been selected by lottery after the diocese were asked to nominate two children to be sent to Rome.

Margaret said that it was an “honour to have the privilege of going to Rome to be confirmed.”

Emily and Edmond will be accompanied by their family for the event.

That’s definitely something to tell the grandchildren…
