Melissa McCarthy is now viewed as guaranteed box office gold, the most obvious pick for supporting female roles but her last couple of films have certainly promoted her to leading lady, especially the brilliant The Heat.
McCarthy co-wrote and stars in Tammy, a road trip movie with a difference. As McCarthy’s character tries to get out of town quickly, without a car she ends up on the road with her grandmother played by Susan Sarandon.
The film is directed by McCarthy’s other half, Ben Falcone, and will open here in July. If it’s any bit as good as the trailer, this may be totally worth it.
