Sky News journalist Richard Suchet landed himself in hot water this week when he tried to claim Saoirse Ronan for Britain.
Talking about the actresses competing in the BAFTAs Best Actress category, Suchet said: “If we look at the leading actress category, I think we can take Saoirse Ronan as one of ours. She’s in Brooklyn. She’s nominated.”
Afterwards, people were livid and many called for the reporter to retract his remark.
He refused but today he changed his mind and issued an apology on his Twitter account.
On Saoirse, I apologise. It came out wrong. I know the UK can't claim her, of course. But the British would love to see her win for Ireland.

Better late than never but we don’t think he will live this one down any time soon!
