Since the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards were announced, many people have voiced their concerns at the lack of racial diversity in this year’s group.
#OscarsSoWhite was trending on Twitter, with people making jokes about the all white nominees list for the Best Actor, Actress and director awards.
Acclaimed director Spike Lee, and actress Jada Pinkett Smith have announced they will be boycotting this year’s ceremony, with Lee posting his feelings on Instagram.

In response to the backlash, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences tweeted a statement voicing her frustration at the problem: ‘I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful work of this year’s nominees. While we celebrate their extraordinary achievements, I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion.’
