If you were tuned into The Late Late Show last Friday night, you may have noticed that the audience were a little more… animated than usual.
Two hundred single men and women had been invited to the recording of the Late Late Valentine’s special but the programme hit the headlines after Katie Hopkins was offered ‘the ride’ by an audience member.
Viewers also picked up that the atmosphere was a bit ‘livelier’ than usual at RTÉ studios, with the national broadcaster since confirming that it received over 50 calls and 30 emails to complain about the show.
However, a spokesperson has since denied claims that large amounts of alcohol were given to the audience prior to filming.
“As with every show, members of the audience are offered a small amount of complimentary refreshments (alcohol and non-alcohol) before the show. The standard amount of refreshments were offered to Friday night’s audience,” said a spokesperson.
“The Late Late Show broadcast a St Valentine’s special on Friday night. With 200 single people, it’s fair to say that love and excitement was in the air.”
