This would be interesting.
Looks like The Great British Bake Off could be moving from the BBC because ITV is looking to get the rights to the popular show. ITV has previously taken The Voice from The BBC so it’s definitely not out of the question.
According to The Sun, the company who owns the show, Love Productions, is said to be demanding a whopping £20 million for the rights when the contract with The BBC expires this year.
And now bosses over at ITV want a piece of the action. They are reportedly going to outbid The BBC to gain the rights following the success of the show which saw over 13 million people tuning in last year.
A source said:
“The last thing the BBC wants to do is let a show as big as The Great British Bake Off go, but it looks like they will have no choice.
“This is the most lucrative show Love Productions have ever made, and they have asked for a huge amount of money to keep it where it is.
“The simple fact is the BBC can’t afford it. Talks have broken down.
“They could turn it around, but at this stage it would look like little less than a miracle.”
While ITV could steal the show by offering more money, that’s not to say they will be able to convince the judges and hosts to move too.
Paul Hollywood insists that he and all the gang, Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, want to stay put on The BBC.
