Ten Reasons Why Titanic Was The Most Unromantic Movie Ever!

Lord Of The Rings is more romantic... even they managed to hang onto the jewellery

Her

We admit, it was a bit of a tear jerker at the time but why is James Cameron’s 90s blockbuster Titanic touted as one of the most romantic movies of all time?

At best, Jack and Rose’s short lived love-fest was a holiday fling!

From Rose getting smacked around to Jack teaching her how to spit, we look at the reasons why it doesn’t pull at our heart strings…

1. The moment Jack and Rose first meet

She’s hanging off the side of the boat, he’s trying to avoid getting caught without a ticket so it’s hardly the most romantic meeting of the century.

2. Rose’s fiancé beats her up

Domestic violence is a serious issue that we’re not trying to make light of, but it kind of seems that Rose goes after Jack because she’s just trying to escape her abusive fiancé.

3. She throws away a diamond necklace

What woman in her right mind would dump a diamond necklace into the ocean? She could have flogged it when she and Jack got to America so they could make a new life for themselves. Now that would have been romantic. Instead, she let him die and pinched his name…

4. Everyone is really mean to the poor Irish people

They locked them into the steerage section, they weren’t allowed in certain parts of the ship and the first class passengers were really mean to them. Not warm and fuzzy in the slightest!

5. Jack teaches Rose how to hock phlegm and spit

You might get away with this if you were about ten and trying to impress a boy who didn’t even realise you fancied him, but not when you’re a grown woman of 30… ahem, we mean 17.

Nothing says romance quite like a quick shag in the back of someone else’s car

6. Their first date was in a carpark

First dates can be hard, especially when you’re confined to a small space and you’re on the run from your date’s lunatic fiancé, but you’d think Jack could have come up with something better than the carpark section of the luggage room. Carparks are so romantic… said no one ever.

7. The shagged in a car on the first date

We’re not prudish by any means and think that girls should do whatever they want on the first date. No judgement here. But what we do have an issue with is the car. Having a quickie in the back seat isn’t sexy or romantic, it’s just a bit awkward. Not that we’d know ourselves.

8. Jack Dies

A living male lead is kind of integral to keeping the romance alive and Jack’s premature death makes this impossible for poor aul Rose. She got over it pretty quick though, and managed to move on once she got to America.

9. Rose lets Jack die

She could have saved him but instead, Rose hogged the whole wardrobe door raft and let poor old Jack float away to his death, half frozen. Surely, there was enough room for both of them?

10. Celine Dion sings the theme song

Enough said.
