What a SHAME.

Shameless has been renewed for its 11th and final season.

Showtime announced this week that the comedy-drama will be coming to an end after 10 years on the air.

“It will be one last hurrah for the Gallaghers and their unique blend of love and lechery,” said Gary Levine, president of entertainment for Showtime.

“John Wells and his gifted cast promise to take Shameless out for a bang, and knowing Gallaghers we all as we all do, that is no idle threat.”

Shameless is the network’s longest running series ahead of Homeland which will end later this year too after its eighth and final season.

The series stars William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, and Emma Kenney, and has long been favourite among fans of gritty, shocking dramas that don’t take themselves all that seriously.

The series and its cast have won multiple Emmys and Screen Actors Guild Awards over the years, including Macy’s Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series as well as the show’s Outstanding Stunt Coordination.

Levine also told Deadline that the show’s final season could mean the return of Emmy Rossum, who left after season nine.

“Everyone who is in this year is coming back next season, and then you never know in a final season what surprises there may be,” he said.

“She would be welcomed with open arms but Emmy doesn’t owe us anything.

“She did great for the show as the show did great for her, and it was a very amicable parting. So if she surprises us, it would be lovely.”

Shameless‘s 11th and final series will air sometimes in mid-2020.
