The man, the myth, the legend. Owen Wilson is one of our all-time favourite actors. Talented writer, comedy genius and all-round Hollywood superstar, we always want to see what this laid-back surf dude is getting up to on screen.
His latest film, the action-packed thriller No Escape, sees him taking on a more dramatic role alongside Pierce Brosnan and Lake Bell. Released in Ireland on 4th September, No Escape tracks Wilson’s attempts to protect his family when they become trapped in a war zone. It looks like a serious nail-biter; we can’t wait to see it!
Here are seven reasons we love the man they call Owen Wilson…
1. His performance in Marley and Me…
Broke our little hearts. The 2008 film led to dog lovers all over the world falling head over heels in love with Mr. Wilson. In one of his most touching roles to date, we watched (and cried) as he and Jennifer Aniston dealt with the ups and downs of life with ‘the world’s worst dog’ a.k.a the most most loveable dog to ever grace the screen.
(Can someone please pass us a tissue?)
2. He’s a fantastic leading man
Having starred alongside some of Hollywood’s leading ladies, including Jennifer Aniston, Rachel McAdams and Kate Hudson, Owen has repeatedly shown his ability to hold his own against some of the best in the business. And looks pretty damn good while he does it.
3. He made us laugh until we cried…
As rising supermodel Hansel in Zoolander. From his scene-stealing ‘walk-off’ with Derek, to his epic one-liners (‘I guess you can dere-lick my balls, capitan’), Owen stole the show. And had us rolling on the floor laughing as he did so. Bring on the sequel!
4. We really want to crash a wedding with him
“I think we only use ten percent of our hearts.” Back in their 2005 smash hit, Owen Wilson, along with his buddy Vince Vaughn, perfected the art of crashing weddings. And we want a lesson from the master.
5. He makes an hilarious on-screen buddy
We love ourselves a double act. And Owen Wilson has been a part of many fantastic duos. From Shanghai Noon with Jack Chan and I Spy alongside Eddie Murphy, to Starsky and Hutch and Zoolander with Ben Stiller, he is the king of comedy partnerships. And we absolutely can’t get enough of them.
6. He’s a man of many talents
Not only is he a comedy legend, he has also shown his formidable talent as a dramatic actor. Next up is his role in No Escape, an action thriller in which he plays a businessman trapped in a war zone with his family.
7. His time travels in Midnight In Paris…
Made us fall in love with the city of romance all over again. Woody Allen was so determined to get Wilson as his leading man for the 2011 hit, that he re-wrote the script to suit Owen’s style. Now that’s impressive.
No Escape will be in cinemas on September 4th. Book your tickets from September 1st.
