Saoirse Ronan is to play a leading role in the film adaption of Colm Tóibín’s novel “Brooklyn.”
Director John Crowley confirmed that Ronan will replace the originally-cast actress Rooney Mara as Eilis Lacey in the film.
Ronan will play a young Irish immigrant in 1950’s New York, where she falls in love and has to choose between life in the US or home.

“I think it’s a story that we’ve never seen on film, certainly not from Ireland, yet” said Crowley speaking to Bleeding Cool.
“I think it’s an amazing story about Europe and America in the 20th Century. It’s like an epic and a postage stamp at the same time. It’s exquisite.”
Fellow Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has also been linked to the movie project.
Crowley’s latest project, “Closed Circuit”, is due to premiere in Irish cinemas tomorrow.
