Welcome to a whole new year of celluloid adventures! 2015 is shaping up to be a great one at the box office, so we’re taking at look at ten of the films we’re most looking forward to in the coming months…

Minions
These yellow-bellied legends were rocking around the earth long before Gru dropped in. Now, we get to see the undisputed stars of Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 in all their throwback glory. If the trailer is anything to go by, millions of Minion fans are in for a big screen treat.
Terminator Genisys
Well, he did say he’d be back. After finding himself in a new time-line, Kyle Reese teams up with John Connor’s mother Sarah and an aging terminator to try and stop the Judgement Day. The fifth installment in the series, Genisys acts as a “sequel, prequel, and reboot”. No pressure, then.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Cinema fans have been salivating at the first sneak peeks of this one. George Miller is back with another instalment of his legendary franchise, with Tom Hardy taking over the titular role. Mad Max, a haunted man, rides alone – but becomes swept up in a group fleeing across the Wasteland. The group, led by Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, are on the run from Immortan Joe, and the scene is set for an epic road war. Summer blockbusters don’t come much bigger than this.
The Walk
“Even impossible dreams begin with a single step.”
Joseph Gordon Levitt takes the lead in this biopic of Philippe Petit and the unlikely allies who make it possible for him to attempt an illegal wire walk between the World Trade Center towers. Expect to squirm in your seat more than once, this one is set to thrill.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
We couldn’t possibly make any list about movies in 2015 that didn’t include a return to Star Wars via JJ Abrams.
From a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, the cast includes Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o and our own Domhnall Gleeson too name but two. Of course we get a further claim to the film as part of it was filmed off the coast of Co. Kerry.
The world cannot wait to see what happens 30 years after Return of the Jedi.
Jurassic World
Can Chris Pratt do any wrong? The answer you’re looking for is no. The hearts of the eight-year-old children inside us skipped a beat at the mere glimpse of this long-awaited instalment in an epic series. Spielberg is back at the helm to produce, Colin Tevorrow directs and the park opens in June, so the world had better be ready for a genetically modified dinosaur hybrid and a pack of trained raptors. We are.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Time spent in the Marvel Universe is never wasted. The first Avengers movie was a complete triumph, uniting Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America and many more in a thrilling superhero ride to save the world. This year, they’re back. This time around it all looks a little bit deeper and darker, meaner and moodier. Epic.
Inside Out
You had us at Pixar. The powerhouse animation studio have turned again to Monsters Inc and Up director Pete Docter for their newest release, and Docter’s original concept has us very excited indeed. Inside Out is set inside the mind of a little girl, with her emotions in character form leading the film. Pixar have never disappointed us yet, so we’re confidently predicting another hit.
Pitch Perfect 2
Acca-Awesome! We have so much love for the first film in this series, which, along with Bridesmaids, proved a female-led cast can bring in the laughs and kill at the box office. Our girl crushes Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are set to return for another raucous ride through the world of a cappella collegiate competitions. Glee, it ain’t.
50 Shades of Grey
Whether you loved or loathed the books, there can be no doubt that 50 Shades is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the coming year. With Jamie Dornan as Mr. Grey, the trailer was the most viewed of 2014. We can only imagine what the box office returns are going to look like. Or, for that matter, what we’re going to look like when we get out of there. Is it suddenly hotter in here?
