Reports suggest The Seven O’Clock Show could be axed

Say it isn't so.

Say it isn’t so.

Earlier this week it was announced that TV3 was bought by Virgin Media. The interesting part is that Virgin Media also owns UTV Ireland, which means that it could see a return of Coronation Street and Emmerdale to TV3.

The soaps were previously shown on TV3 but when UTV came to Ireland they lost the rights.

So now it’s being speculated that with the new buy out of TV3, it could see the return of those two soaps to the channel which won’t be good news for The Seven O’Clock Show which currently fills their slot.

An insider told The Sun:

“The Seven O’Clock Show was devised specifically to combat the threat of soaps on rivals UTV Ireland. With that danger gone, and Corrie and Emmerdale looking likely to air on TV3 again, it’s obvious Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be going in the Seven O’Clock Show slot.”

They continued:

“Lucy Kennedy is destined for big things on a range of shows and could end up as Ireland’s answer to Davina McCall. While Martin King remains one of the most popular presenters on TV3 who can be called up again when the station is coming under pressure.”

We’re taking this with a pinch of salt, as just because UTV and TV3 now have the same owner doesn’t necessarily mean the soaps will return to TV3. The Seven O’Clock Show is a brilliant addition to the TV3 schedule so we hope it doesn’t get axed.
