Director Quentin Tarantino has filed a lawsuit against Gawker for copyright infringement after the US media website published links to download the script for his planned western, “The Hateful Eight.”
The Oscar-winning filmmaker is said to be seeking more than $1million in damages for each of the two copyright claims where he states that Gawker promoted and disseminated copies of the screenplay.
Gawker editor John Cook, denied the claim saying that the website did not leak the script but only published a link to a site, AnonFiles.com, where it could be downloaded.
Cook said that the company was being sued for contributory copyright infringement for publishing links to AnonFiles.com.
AnonFiles, which allows users to download and upload files online anonymously, is being sued for direct copyright.
Tarantino discovered that his script had been leaked on January 21st and said that he now planned to scrap the film.
