Reality show Love Island has been deemed “sexist” by viewers.

A new season of the show debuted on ITV2 last night however it was not well-received on social media.

The dating show, which features 12 contestants in a luxury Mallorca villa, came under fire for some of the comments made by male contestants.

The men bragged about sleeping with up to 400 women, bedding six women in one night, and spoke of how they would “leather” the female contestants.

A number of viewers took to Twitter to express their outrage at the comments while others took issue with the format of the show itself.

An ITV2 spokesman denied accusations of sexism, telling MailOnline: “Love Island was one of the most talked about shows of the night and struck a chord with an ITV2 audience.

“It is compliant with Ofcom guidelines.”
